Hillary Westfield has become an independent pirate after deciding she no longer wants to be a member of the Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates, but people in her life have other ideas. When Miss Pimm, Enchantress of the Northlands, wants to retire she convinces Hillary to challenge Captain Blacktooth for presidency of the league. Otherwise, the queen will not allow Claire to be the next Enchantress. Hillary and her friends sail around to recruit enough support to be able to challenge Captain Blacktooth, but the VNHLP president isn’t going to go down without a fight and without unfair tactics.

The last adventure of Hillary and her friends will make fans of the series happy with the next installment, but also sad that there won’t be any more. This book shows some of the growth that Hillary has gone through to get to the point where she is willing to challenge Captain Blacktooth for the good of others. Even though she is a pirate, her efforts to be a good person and a good friend help emphasize that the pirates in these books aren’t necessarily the scourges and villains that people know from history. The book has laugh-out-loud moments and the same characters that fans have come to love leading readers to a wonderful conclusion.
