When a helpful mouse finds a lost shoe, he desperately tries to locate its owner. Walking all over the wild neighborhood, Mouse asks his neighbors if the precarious shoe belongs to them. The various animals give their reasons why that big blue shoe could not possibly be theirs, and the mouse continues onward until the owner is found.
Bunting teaches young readers the importance of not keeping what you've found, but instead returning lost items to their owners. When something is returned to you that you have misplaced, the joy you feel is shared with the person who tried so hard to find you. When Mouse finds the owner of the shoe, both him and the owner are equally happy. Completely appropriate for the intended audience, Whose Shoe is very juvenile. Young minds will be able to grasp the story line and the importance of the life lesson offered to them.
