Aliens hypersensitive to noise have invaded earth and wiped out most of the population. A family of five forages for supplies in a largely ransacked grocery store, but find the medication they need. As they walk home the youngest makes noise and his father is unable to reach him in time. The movie fast-forwards to a year later. The four have learned to be silent at all times. The father is teaching his son how to survive on his own. The oldest daughter is dealing with anger and guilt over the loss of her youngest brother, and the mom is pregnant and almost ready to deliver. As the plot intensifies, the unity of this family is tested and the endurance of the human race hangs in the balance.
With the movie's unique premise, the silence of this film is what pushes the creepiness to the max. The family is a very strong unit with intelligent, devoted parents who have pressed themselves to the limit to create a safe environment for their children and the new baby. Quick motion and sound provide a lot of startle factor and the attack of the aliens when they are present is swift. There is little gore which makes it a nice change from slasher films. This film is very intense, an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride from beginning to end and is not appropriate for those who don't like scary movies. That said, this is an amazing film with a great script and outstanding characters facing the apocalypse with courage and faith in each other.
*Contains moderate violence.
