Lady Mina Thretheway breaks societal rules when she sets out to serve her country and king during WWI. She is trying various ways to entertain herself and friends at boarding school when her father sends a cryptic message urging her home to help, but she must figure out why and how she can contribute to the war effort. When Mina arrives home, she finds out that all is not as it seems. A spy may be lurking around her manor, and she discovers that her coding and language talents could be valuable in a top-secret mission.

This book has an engaging story line centered around a strong female protagonist. Keeping a balance between adventure and romance, there are several unexpected plot twists that will have the reader guessing. Throughout the book, Mina shows growth and awareness of her strengths as well as her foibles, making her character likable and identifiable. The book will likely appeal to a large audience as it is equal parts adventure, mystery, and romance. However, there seems to be a lack of historical research and believability. While it is evident that much research was done prior to writing the book, some of the military mission details seem unbelievable and give rise to questioning whether it could have actually happened. While this book may not offer great depth about the history of WWI, it is overall an entertaining and lighthearted book with likable characters.
