Baking with dad is awesome! Make sure to pick the right ingredients, like sugar, and not the wrong ingredients, like spiders! This little girl and her dad have fun and make a mess! They wait patiently as their creation bakes and then carefully decorate it once it cools. Their cake is done just in time for the birthday party!
Baking with Dad is a fun, quick read. The characters' antics are reminisce of many father-daughter relationships, and are sure to make kids giggle. The family's cat is in many of the pictures and adds another fun dimension to the pages. The illustrations are simple, a little crude, but silly and fun just like the rest of the book. Baking with Dad takes a refreshing break from typical gender roles. The birthday cake is for another man, possibly implying that the girl has two dads, but nothing is said explicitly. Readers could interpret the situation either way, and could use it as a chance to talk about homosexual relationships or simply say it is her brother, uncle, etc. Regardless, this book is highly recommended!
