Biscuit is in for a treat when his owner brings home a new toy. But he has to earn the toy by performing tricks with it. Biscuit is confused about which trick he should perform, but finally understands that his owner wants him to fetch the ball. At first he is distracted by a neighborhood cat, but fetches the ball exactly as his owner asked. Biscuit's owner learns to be happy rather than frustrated with Biscuit, celebrating his simple successes.
Like all Biscuit books, the story is told in first person from the dog owner’s perspective. The frustrations and excitements that she has are experienced firsthand by readers. This book is a My First I can Read! book, meaning it’s great for parents to read aloud to children who haven’t yet learned to read. Simple words, repetition, and illustrations with clues help children learn the ins and outs of reading.
