Zoey sees children getting on the school bus and has an idea. She draws a plan and gathers her friends. They are excited to go to Zoey's school for the books, snacks, and crayons. But when they get there, Zoey doesn't do what they expect. She builds a castle out of books, uses crayons to make backdrops for their adventures, and skips math! Clara steps in and teaches some math because math is just as fun a recess.
This is a unique take on animals going to school. Zoey, the chicken that starts the school, is full of spunk and does things her own way, but not the wrong way. It is great how the book shows that there isn't a 'wrong' way to use crayons or books. In a certain way, the whole book is like an advertisement for school. All the animals are excited about one aspect or another when they hear Zoey's idea and everything that's said about school is positive. This book is great for teaching kids that school can be fun and exciting!
