There are many important community workers, but at the root of each person in the community are teachers. They influence people of all other careers. Teachers play an important role in communities. They teach children of many ages different subjects, including math, art, history, and language arts. Teachers tell students facts, but they also guide students to ask questions and learn on their own. Teachers give homework and tests in order to help students learn. They use many tools, including whiteboards, textbooks, and computers.
This book is part of the Community Workers series. A few statistics about teachers are included on the pages. Both male and female teachers are portrayed in the photographs. There are clear, colorful photographs with labels, as well as QR codes that lead to relevant materials for students and teachers. Some of the QR codes lead to information that is already included in the back of the book, such as the portion about making text-to-self connections. The activities available online for students have to be downloaded and printed out, which can be tedious. A child who reads this book most likely knows this material based on their school experiences. This book would be most useful when used with the entire series and possibly for comparing and contrasting community workers’ responsibilities.
