Born in indigent circumstances with a father who did hard time and was absent for much of his early life, this little boy contained an extraordinary talent for music. His mother would save up her limited funds to buy him a special treat, a cheeseburger. Elvis loved cheeseburgers! Who knew? Elvis was a shy teenager, but when he found himself on stage all of that reticence disappeared, and a new legend was launched. Elvis is the one and only king of Rock and Roll. His life is a true rags to riches story that exemplifies the American dream. Dream big little fans.
This is a great picture book for future and current fans of the King. Elvis' life was far more difficult than many people know and this story reveals many lesser known facts about his early life and his road to fame and fortune. The illustrations are colorful in strong reds and blues and are fascinating in and of themselves. The illustrator, Red Nose Studio, created 3-D depictions of Elvis and his environment and photographed them. This provides an effect that is very reminiscent of clay motion animation, a special effects technique used in movies before computer animation replaced it. At the end of the book readers will find an explanatory double truck with facts vs. fiction relevance. This is a great book that will make a reader ponder more than just Elvis' music.
