When her brother, Jamie, and his friend visit her on a break from West Point, it becomes clear that Grace isn’t the only one in danger. Her brother’s friend is murdered and she is determined to find out why. Her friend Alexi is accused of the murder, but she is certain that he is innocent and it is a conspiracy to get him out of the way. In the process of uncovering the mystery and discovering crucial events in the history of Adria, however, her life and the lives of the people she cares most about are in danger.

Again Ally Carter combines mystery, thriller, and politics. The mystery is deeper and more intense that the mystery in other books by her. The action of this book is very fast paced, making it difficult to put the book down. The characters continue to be developed, and Grace’s interactions with the different personalities of her friends and the adults in her life feel real and believable. Grace is struggling with a lot of psychological issues and trying to deal with everyone trying to shelter her, but not being able to shelter her from herself. The friends and family not giving up on her is heartwarming. Again the book ends with a crazy plot twist, ensuring that readers will be anxiously awaiting the third book in the series.
