Sadie is going into second grade and is determined to help her little sister, Eva, get ready for kindergarten. With all the quizzes and rules Sadie tries to teach her, Eva feels overwhelmed. Their concerned, loving parents are able to talk Sadie’s well-intentioned assistance down, and soon the first day of school rolls around. Sadie worries all day about her little sister, but sees her after school doing just fine. It seems Eva was ready for kindergarten after all.
This sweet story about two sisters teaches a message about caring for family, while also recognizing developmental appropriateness. Sadie tried to teach Eva a lot of things she wasn’t ready for and she got overwhelmed. Sometimes people are too busy worrying about and preparing for the future, that they miss the here and now. This book teaches the reader to enjoy the stage that they are in and recognize that all things come in time. Adorable illustrations and the cute plotline make this book great for older siblings who may be trying to help their siblings grow up, but maybe a little bit too fast.
