Fletcher loves the tree, but thinks that it is dying as autumn comes and the leaves begin to fall. It breaks his heart as other animals take the leaves away to line their nests. Fletcher tries to keep the last leaf from falling, but to no avail. Winter comes along and icicles hang from every branch. Fletcher realizes then that all seasons are beautiful.

Beautifully illustrated images have the reader falling in love with little Fletcher the fox over and over again. We can see his joy and pain in each warm expression of his face. Fall is a colorful time of year, and the pictures capture the essence of a fall feeling. The chilly breeze mixing with all of the warm colors and that delicious sense of loss as the trees become bare are all felt through the lovely, emotive illustrations. This is a great book for the season.
