Now that the moon is out and everyone has gone to bed, it’s the perfect time for Fox to find her dinner. As Fox explores the dark city, she chases after a mouse, finds her reflection, and runs from a speeding car. She also smells something delicious, which turns out to be a piece of shrimp! Fox takes her prize on the moonlit path leading back to her den.
Fox Explores the Night is a story containing themes about light and dark for young children. Even though the plot of the story focuses on Fox’s adventures in finding the perfect dinner, the illustrations and words reveal different kinds of light sources. Young readers will be introduced to concepts like day and night, but they will also be shown the difference between natural versus man-made light. The story line itself is simple, but the book can lead to meaningful scientific discussions with young children.
