Artemis is the goddess of hunting, so naturally she should always be brave, or at least that’s what she tells herself. But at thirteen years of age, she is afraid sometimes. However, she would never admit that she is scared to anyone. She has sworn off love and feels like crushes are dumb. That is, until there is a new boy at school. As the school is getting ready to put on a play, Artemis learns much about herself along with the help of her friends and her brother, Apollo.
This is a good read for children around the ages of twelve and thirteen because they can relate to what Artemis is going through. She is figuring out who she is as well as dealing with her first crush and learning from that. There is magic in this fantasy, and it is true to Greek god mythology with the different characters in the book and their abilities. Overall, this is a good book that talks about what real bravery means and that it is good to just be yourself.
