Ruby, Julia and Django build a snow internet! They add all kinds of fun things, like cats and riddles. The internet also has towers and cables. There are addresses for sending information. Last, and maybe most important, there are lots and lots of friends! But Ruby learns to be careful too, because there can be scary things as well and we have to keep ourselves safe.
If you have read Hello Ruby: Journey Inside the Computer, then you already know exactly what you're getting into. Expedition to the Internet has a different cast, except for Ruby, but the illustrations and layout of the book are incredibly consistent. The story for this book is a little more abstract, but the plethora of activities in the back should more than clear up any confusion. The first half of the book is presented in story form to introduce the core ideas of the book. In this case, it demonstrates the different types of things that make up the internet. The second half of the book is full of thirty-three different hands-on, engaging activities that dive even further into the subject. The book is well done and so accessible. Every page is colorful and inviting. The variety of activities make it an excellent choice for a range of ages.
