He just needs to catch the ball. A boy has been assigned to play outfield in a neighborhood pick-up game of baseball. Soon, his chance for a fly ball has come his way. As if in slow-motion, he imagines all of the worst-case scenarios that would hinder his catch. Luckily, these figments of his imagination turn positive as he uses the boost of his teammates to catch the ball and shout, “I got it!”
This almost-wordless book by David Wiesner is pure imagination. Everyone can relate to a moment when time seems to slow-down and our thoughts run away from us. The illustrations are full of life and movement as the little boy visualizes troublesome and unrealistic possibilities. His imagination shifts when he realizes what he is capable of doing with encouragement from his teammates and celebrates with them in the end. This book is another great read in the tradition of David Wiesner.
