In this delightful book which explores emotions, each page begins with the phrase “I love you when…” told by mother to child. The author has chosen a very wide range of emotions and real-life situations, including sillyness and fright. All of these validating statements are followed by the crowning reason for the mother’s love: “I love you any way you feel, no matter what you do. I love you any way you are, I love you because you’re you!”
This book has every needed ingredient of a wonderful children’s book. The overall message is fantastic—a lesson for children that they are unconditionally loved, and a good reminder for parents to love their children no matter what. The vivid, highly-detailed colored pencil drawings are beautiful and do an excellent job of portraying the emotions and situations which they illustrate. The range of moods are varied and interesting and can also help children understand the way they’re feeling. This is truly a must-read book, one that would readily find a place in any home and be used and loved again and again.
