Little Critter is ready for an adventure at sea with his dad. First, his dad buys a boat and they fix it up together. Little Critter gives the boat a name and paints it on the side of it. Although they are going fishing, Little Critter is not enchanted by the fish bait. They don’t catch anything all day, until they follow the seagulls and catch all sorts of fish. Unfortunately, all of the lines get tangled and the fish get away. Little Critter gets excited when he sees whales, sharks, and dolphins, but they get too close. It turns out to be a fun day, but it’s enough adventure for one day.
This is a classic Little Critter story of a father son day on the ocean. Like most Little Critter books, the dad can’t seem to do anything right, but they still have fun. There is a cute mouse and a friendly spider that can be spotted on every page, which is fun for very young readers. The illustrations are humorous, but the humor might need to be pointed out to children by their parents. For example, there is a funny billboard about boat towing that ends up being ironic for the Little Critters. This book is an I Can Read book, which is perfect for emergent readers.
