During their senior year in high school, Max, Preston, and Parvati, decide to make a little money at school by forging signatures, creating alibis, and assisting cheaters. It starts off really well and they make good money. One night, Preston asks Max to pretend to go camping with him so he can go visit a girl he has been talking to online, but afterwards Preston goes missing. Parvati and Max find an address that might lead to Preston, but when they get there the house is on fire. Preston's body is found with the body of his real mom. Later, Preston shows up and confesses that everything was an elaborate scheme to get back at Max for taking Preston’s chance to be adopted by the Cantrell's.
Liars, Inc. is a great mystery that will make you think. There is a lot of foreshadowing that gives you hints about what is really happening without giving anything away. The excitement of the story builds really well and makes it hard to put the book down! The many plot twists along the way also help to draw you further into the book and Max’s story. The characters are relatable and as you read you can’t help but to be invested in them. You have to be careful not to get caught on the red herrings as you read. One of the main themes of the book is to be more grateful for what you have, even if it isn't perfect. And another theme of the book is about the importance of family.
