This short book introduces readers to Macaw basics and interesting facts about Macaws. Readers learn about Macaw size and diet and their physical and mental abilities. The second portion of the book has a short fictional story about a macaw in a pet store that escapes, goes on adventures exploring, and ultimately finds a friendly little boy that will provide the macaw with a forever home. The book ends with some interesting fun facts about macaws, a reading comprehension quiz, and a glossary of terms.
Magnificent Macaws provides a great balance between nonfiction facts and a fictional story that will keep young readers interested. The facts are presented in two or three sentence segments with vibrant full-page colored photographs. The fictional story has a rhythmic flow that allows beginning readers to sound out unfamiliar words alongside illustrations that give context clues to the written text. The last page of this book is a glossary that gives definitions of unfamiliar words to younger readers. This is a great book that provides an appropriate amount of information to elementary-aged children looking to do a short report on Macaws.
