Woof the dog and Quack the duck are good friends. They’d like to play a game together, but when Quack suggests that Woof play fetch (first with a ball, then a banana, then a cake), Woof heartily refuses. Duck is in shock, but then Woof is equally surprised to hear that Quack does like to fetch. And so Quack fetches a ball, then a banana, and finally… well, fetching the cake doesn’t work out that well, but the two friends sure enjoy eating it together! It looks like this odd friendship will work out after all.
Meet Woof & Quack is a perfect book for beginner readers. Though short, it has a clear and amusing plot that has just enough conflict and resolution to keep it moving readily forward. The conversation between the two characters are presented very simply in text bubbles in green and purple, making the book very easy to follow and read, especially when there are two readers. As for illustrations, the portrayals of Woof and Quack are adorable, and the bright and various colors give the book a cheerful mood and are sure to catch the attention of any reader. The message of the story is also noteworthy, encouraging quality friendship that validates each individual with their own desires and strengths. Lovable characters, brilliant illustrations, a creative and meaningful storyline, and easy-to-read text make this an outstanding choice for beginner readers.
