The students of U.A. High School for heroes are gone for week-long internships. Midoriya is offered one by All Might’s former teacher, Gran Torino. Gran Torino is old and seemingly senile, but he teaches Midoriya more about his power than he has before known. After training, Gran Torino decides to take Midoriya by bullet train to the city to fight low-level villains. On the way, their train is stopped and a Nomu crashes in at Hosu City, where Iida is trying to find the hero-killer, Stain. Midoriya rushes to save his friend from the disaster of the city, only to find him in Stain’s clutches. Having the forethought to text out his location, Todoroki also comes to aid Midoriya as he fights Stain.

This story is perhaps the most exciting thus far in the series. Against a villain as strong as Stain, the three UA students are pushed to their limits. The book also shows some character growth for Iida, who learns more about being a hero, as well as Todoroki, who now considers Midoriya a friend. It also furthers the plot of the series, as the overarching villain to the story continues to try to destroy Stain’s reputation. Midoryia’s growth in this story, however, is the crowning achievement, since he learns to actually use his quirk or special power and put it to good use. Overall, it is a well-written volume in the series that is exciting and serves a good purpose for the storyline.
