When seventeen-year-old Rory gets the summer job of a lifetime as an errand girl in a mansion in the Hamptons, she can't help but be thrilled. But she is not prepared for the culture shock that awaits her and the interesting and sometimes difficult people she will meet. One of the new people in her life is Isabel Rule, the daughter of the couple that Rory is working for. Isabel is the same age as Rory, and the girls find themselves in an unlikely friendship. When Isabel stumbles upon love, she will find her life changing in a way she's not quite prepared for. When Rory finds a love interest as well, the girls are both going through some of the same experiences, but of course, there are secrets involved that may just change everything.
Rules of Summer is a story of surprising love connections and friendships. This book is a light enjoyable read. The cover art is eye-catching and sets the tone for this beachy read. It's a perfect book for a long road trip or to throw in your beach bag. Older teens and young adults are the target audience for this book. However, the characters are likeable and well-developed, which makes them seem more mature for an older audience. Appearances can often be deceiving and people are not always what they seem. Such is the case in this summer romance. Turn your mind off of real-life mode and turn your mind on to Hamptons mode and enjoy!
