Runny Babbit and his friends Toe Jurtle, Skertie Gunk, Rirty Dat, Dungry Hog, and Snerry Jake have a unique way of speaking where they switch beginning letter sounds around. Shel Silverstien tells their stories in this unique way, including the time Runny Babbit snoes gorkeling or the time he goes to the founty cair. Runny and his friends have all sorts of stories to share and Silverstien does a wonderful job of telling them exactly how the characters would.
Runny Babbit takes awhile to get used to as the reader has to train their brain to read the actual words on the page, not the words they think should be there. It's a creative piece that children and students will find hilarious when read to them out loud. The drawings done by Silverstein are unique and fun to look at while reading about the adventures of Runny Babbit and his friends. Kids will love to try and "leak their spanguage" and learn the creative ways of writing.
