Fred realizes that he's in a book, and after the book says something, it happens to him and Ed. He doesn't mind until the book makes him walk into a tree and wear a chicken suit. He then refuses to participate when told to run. So the book's pages put him in a jungle next to some hungry lions. See Fred run!
This is a great entry-level book for young readers. There are fifty-nine essential sight words in the text. The sentences are short and simple and, even more importantly, amusing. The illustrations feature bright solid colors, bold shapes, and funny characters. It does, however, have a few shortcomings: it is a little difficult to read, the narration isn't obviously responding to Fred and there is occasionally text within the image that would be distracting, and possibly frustrating, to early readers.
