There is a little mouse that lives in a hole. He pops out of his hole and explores the meadow. He sees snails, bees, and woodpeckers. He even sees himself in a puddle! Every day he brings some food home to store for winter. When winter comes, he eats the food he gathered the rest of the year and snuggles under a blanket in his little hole.

Alice Schertle, also the author of The Little Blue Truck, once again has produced an exceptional children's story. Such a Little Mouse has her characteristic poetic voice and repetitive text. The lulling open verse text is a delight to read. The story, however, is lacking an interesting plot: the mouse goes about doing odd little things and nothing really comes of it. The illustrations are whimsical and detailed. Overall, this book is a visual treat and a good choice to read for nap or bed time.
