It's a hot day, but not too hot for an adventure. A boy and his grandfather collect all the necessary items for a picnic and set out on an adventure in the blazing heat. They consult the map and walk and walk until they find the perfect spot. As it turns out, someone else was already there. They have stumbled upon a ship full of pirates. They join the pirates for a picnic and then head home to reflect on the day and hope for more sunny days ahead.
Beautiful, stretching landscapes emanate the scorching heat described in this book. The story is a good reminder that weather does not have to be a deterrent to adventure. Preschool to school-age children will appreciate the need for navigation and provisions that make this excursion seem so important. And the relatable and realistic tale has just enough imagination to become an instant classic on any bookshelf.
