Just when Lavender, a day-dreamer, thinks her chances of marrying a prince are gone, she finds a magical snail to make her dreams come true—only it’s not as she expected. A giant snatches her house and all who are in it and takes them to the Land of Giants to be his daughter’s new birthday toys. When Lavender finds a prince in the Land of Giants, she assumes he is the love of her life. Her practical sister Eliza, a regular-sized boy giant named Bonnet, and their goat, Gertrude, set out to save Lavender from making a mistake and find a way back home. With many mishaps along the way, they manage to return home safely. Lavender realizes that she is happiest at home with those she loves.
In this sequel to Buckle and Squash: The Perilous Princess Plot, the completely opposite sisters are at it again. They do not see eye to eye on anything but that does not stop them from helping, forgiving or loving each other. From experience, they learn to use their words wisely, especially when wishing is involved. Readers will enjoy numerous puns, metaphors, similes, and references to fairy tales. The quirky pencil illustrations throughout the book add to the overall theme and mood. The silly and comical atmosphere is created with made-up words, eccentric characters, and occasional footnotes explaining the madness. This book could be a fun read-aloud with only one caution: the giants solve problems through fighting and name-calling. In this mixed-up magical adventure, readers learn in a humorous and entertaining way what really matters.
