Poe Blythe is living in a futuristic world, but her heart is stuck in the past. She has lost her true love at the hands of evil, and she vows to get revenge. When Poe is named captain of a new journey on the ship she has invested so much in, she has no idea just what is in store for her and her crew. This voyage will not be a safe one and not everyone will survive. Gold will not be the only thing Poe Blythe discovers as she traverses the haunting river waters.

This book starts off great. It's very gripping and exciting at the beginning and really draws the reader in. However, the middle section seems to dwindle, and the hope for an astonishing outcome never comes to pass. The adventure story has a lot of potential, but it doesn’t quite make the mark in consistency. The target audience for this book is ages twelve and up, but the language and subject matter is more appropriate for older teens and young adult readers. While this book doesn't quite hit the mark, the plot is definitely unique and different when compared to other dystopian and science fiction reads.

*Contains mild language and mild violence.
