Reading/Interest Level: Preschool, Primary

A young child invites the reader into the village. Readers are introduced to the local sites (limited though they may be, the child's pride in everything is conveyed), to fed-up Mum, and most importantly to the rickety, rumbly homemade bike that is this child's pride and joy. The children take the readers for a ride and share their joy in this treasure.
This is an amazing book about the joy of children that can overcome every adversity to bring fun into the world. The illustrations are vibrant and painted as if on cardboard, which reinforces the make-do, can-do attitude of the entire book. The words are a joy in and of themselves with a jangle and jump of their own that give voice to the humor, pride, and fun with effortless ease. This is a wonderful book for everyone who cherishes the revel of youth.
