Jeremy Wilderson is not your average sixth grader, and he is definitely not a thief! He’s a retrieval specialist. His job is to help his fellow middle-schoolers find the things that have been stolen from them and get them back to their rightful owner. With the help of his two best friends, Hack and Case, Jeremy can get away with anything he wants. But, when an eighth grader tricks Jeremy into stealing the master key for the lockers and handing it over to the real thief, Jeremy is pressed to his limits. He teams up with his archnemesis, Becca, and they work together to stop the locker thief and restore order to Scottsville Middle School.
This is a delightfully adventurous book. The characters are well-developed, and the narrator has a great voice. Under Locker and Key is the perfect book for older elementary students. It’s clean and does not contain violence or language. The writing style of Allison Hymas is very gripping and descriptive. The mystery and excellent writing will keep the reader on the seat edge until the end of the book. The cover art is not appealing, and the diagonal stripes on the sides of the pages of a new chapter are distracting. However, the content of the book is wonderfully delightful. The story is fun and easily relatable to anyone in middle school, or anyone who survived middle school.
